    WHAT IS A VINTAGE-INSPIRED MARKET ? ? ?

    Hi everyone!!

We have been getting a lot of questions asking why our market has this, or doesn’t have that. So we thought we would do a little blog post full of pictures from our markets and full of exactly what a vintage-inspired market has in store for you!!

A vintage market is a relatively new term in the flea market world. It usually refers to an occasional sale where the goods (primarily home furnishings) are trendy and desirable, but not old enough to be antiques. The vintage items are frequently altered by restyling, up-cycling, or repurposing.

Most vintage shows are called curated markets, which typically means vendors are chosen on both the appeal of their merchandise and their talent in displaying it.-Leah French 2017

Vintage-inspired markets are not your usual craft show or flea market with lots of trinkets and boring tables. Instead, crafts or handmade items are included that support the vintage vibe of the market and other curators’ up-cycled pieces.

Vintage can mean different things to different people. Vintage is a dresser from the 70’s thats not quite antique yet…It’s an old post from a porch thats been forgotten & painted 40 times with chipping paint and natural age cracks or maybe its a replication of just that. Maybe its a new post someone(talented) refinished themselves to look 100 years old.

BUT..let me tell you why that replicated piece is SO AMAZING! The techniques used to create that finish takes years of practice. Trial & error- long hours of painting and repainting. It’s a talent. To be able to recreate something as beautiful as the 100 year old porch post. Tons of companies get paid millions of dollars to offer items just like this. YOU get to shop a LOCAL market that offers both of these types of items-new and old. It is not an event offering only antique finds & crafts. IT IS SO MUCH MORE!!

A vintage-inspired market is an event that offers shoppers an array of vendors with different talents and passions. These vendors range from pickers, makers, shop keepers, antique collectors, small businesses, bakers, chefs, organic product specialists, craftsman, seamstresses, creatives that work hard to bring you a handmade and one-of-a-kind item, musicians, crafters, artists and hustlers who work so hard to offer a great product.

A vintage inspired market is an event that is meant to inspire you. An event that teaches you how to use something that is old and forgotten in todays decor. It shows you creative vignettes mixing old treasures & brand new items that fit into trendy decor. Some offer a boho booth and some offer a farmhouse style booth. The booths are curated and a lot of time is put into creating each display. Each vendor decorates their booth in such a way that each is its own market boutique. Styled specifically for their theme filled with items waiting to find their forever home. Whether it is antiques, handmade, hand-painted, up-cycled or found, vintage market vendors all share the love of mixing old and new to create something completely unique to their brand and shoppers.

Imagine walking into a SMALL colorful old town, full of hundreds of quaint shops and quirky goodies with passionate owners that you get to meet and chat with.  Now imagine rows and rows of tents offering everything from handmade, new, vintage & antique goods. Not a flea market style tent but a curated event with hundreds of small boutiques- styled to the 10’s. All your favorite things in one beautiful place. Vintage-inspired markets offer such a fun day of shopping and inspiration that is totally unique and specific to THAT MARKET. Every location, every vendor, every market is new and different and FULL of discoveries & treasures…waiting to be found!

    Happy Hunting,

    Jeanette & Patty

Tips On Shopping Finders Keepers Vintage Market

    Hi Friends!!

We are here today to give you a quick check list of all the important things you may need to have a fun and successful day of shopping with us!

    1. GET THERE EARLY– Arrive before the market opens to park, get in line and get first dibs at all handmade & found treasures. Things go fast once we open and once it’s gone it GONE!
    2. Tape measure– If you are considering buying a painted, antique or a found piece of furniture measure the space (or spaces) in your home you are looking to fill. Write those measurement down to reference back to while shopping. This is also true for wall art- knowing how big or small you want to go before you shop will save you time and help you from purchasing something that won’t work in your space.
    3. Wear comfortable clothing & shoes– Shopping 150 vendors, who are so insanely talented, takes some time. You will want to check out EVERYTHING so be prepared to spend some time in each booth.
    4. Wagon or something to carry around your treasures– Nothing stinks more than wanting to purchase something and having your hands so full you are uncomfortable or have to make trips back to the truck. Bring a large shopping tote, wagon or LOTS OF FRIENDS to haul your finds from booth to booth.
    5. Cash– CASH over credit card will get a better deal if you are looking to negotiate a price on a bigger ticketed item. FYI: We do not have an ATM on site so be prepared.
    6. Truck– Nothing is worse than wanting to take home that amazing architectural salvage piece, vintage find or that gorgeous buffet and not being able to fit in in your vehicle.
    7. Tie straps, plastic and blankets– We will be there to help you load anything large and get your goodies home safe and sound, if you do not know how to use a strap(they can be tough) we have you covered! Just make sure you have the things you may need to load up and head home.
    8. Friends– You will want someone to ask opinions and help load your goodies. Shopping with friends is the best way to shop!
    9. Pictures of other things in your home– If you are looking for wall art, pillows furniture or decor take some pictures of the room, other decor pieces you have so you can imagine what the finished product will look like. Most vendors are very good at helping shoppers put together vignettes that are appealing and work in any space. DON’T be afraid to ask their opinions- they love to help.
    10. WE HAVE FOOD TRUCKS– Don’t worry about eating before coming or packing snacks. We have tons of food options for you to choose from.
    11. Prepare for the weather- Watch the weather and prepare for it. Wear appropriate clothing and bring sunblock.
    12. Paper & Pen– You may want to get a vendors phone number, write down a booth number you want to revisit or take a few notes on pieces you find to compare.
    13. Deals happen at the end of the market– Stick around till the end or plan to come back for any really good deals. Vendors may not want to reload things that haven’t sold and are more willing to negotiate.

That’s IT!!! A pretty good list of anything you will need to have FUN & SHOP TIL YOU DROP!!!

We open  at 10am and close at 4pm.

We can’t wait to meet all of you! You are going to LOVE every inch of our curated market!! Our vendors are talented, creative and helpful. You won’t meet a better bunch of hard-working shop keepers and small businesses.

Our annual fall market date in Chelsea Mi is September 16th! Click here to RSVP on Facebook!!!

    See you soon!

Why Shop Finders Keepers Vintage Market?

    Hey there!

If you are anything like me and my friend Patty then you have a love for ALL THINGS VINTAGE CHIPPY & HANDMADE!!

We put this market together to have a place where we could gather with fellow like minded creatives! It has been an insane amount of work but worth every minute of it! The June spring market was a huge success & so much fun to be a part of.

We were a little nervous on how things would go. I can honestly say that we have never been surrounded by so many sweet & helpful people! The energy was amazing-the booths were gorgeous & the items were truly one of a kind! the weather..not so much:/ But we can not control mother nature and her bi-polar moods!

We can control how we react to things & I think, for our first market, we handled the baby hurricane with as much Calm we had in us! Shoppers helped hold down tents (vendors were even saying they were still selling during the storm!) CRAZY!! and that everyone pulled together and made the best of the situation. Thank you again mother nature, vendors & shoppers for making it a memorable first market!!

The fall market (SEPTEMBER 11-click for details) weather looks AMAZING!!! 75 & SUNNY!!

We want each of you, vendors & shoppers to know how much gratitude we have for your support in following our passion & our dreams! Talented vendors- we love that you took a gamble with our first market & I know with out all of you it wouldn’t have been so successful. We had a large range of way fab goodies to offer shoppers. Shoppers- JUST THANK YOU!!! for coming out & supporting the market & the vendors. I know a lot of vendors just about sold out in 3 hours last market and that means you are liking the types of curators we are allowing into the shows.

Closing with the fact that Patty & I are beyond excited to bring you another market! The city of Woodhaven is already booking us for the spring & fall of 2017 and that makes us feel like all in all-the market was very well received and the word about it will just keep spreading! And our markets will just keep growing!

SO!! why shop Finders Keepers Vintage Market?? Because we are awesome & we work so hard to bring you an event you DO NOT want to miss!! !!

We had 6 months to seek out vendors for this year and hopefully they all return!!! and then we can start to add more amazing curators and fun things to market day!!!

Till then, we are busy planning and creating our own goodies for you to shop!!

Come see us and 130 amazing small shops & local curators!!! <–Click for the link!
